School Attendance
Attendance Vision
At Wolverley CE Secondary School we believe that students will only achieve Ambition Unlimited and the skills to become truly independent effective learners if they maintain excellent attendance.
We have a whole school culture of high attendance, so it is expected that all students aim for 100% attendance at school, making the most of the opportunities available to them.
Only through excellent attendance can we ever hope to maximise opportunities for each student to realise their potential and maximise their life chances, giving them the freedom of choice. At Wolverley CE Secondary School we value achievement of every kind. In keeping with our school vision, we want to empower students, education is the driving force of this.
If your son/daughter has 19 days plus of absence, they will be considered to be a persistent absentee and will remain so for the remainder of the academic year. Evidence shows the negative impact this has on a students progress is significant.
Benefits of high attendance:
- Good attendance = high achievement
- It gives students the best chance of being successful at school.
- Evidence shows students make better progress and get better results than students with poor attendance. For example, in Year 11, an attendance rate of 90% results in underachievement at GCSE examinations by one grade.
- Good attendance promotes a strong work ethic and a can-do mindset.
- It supports students to develop positive social relationships with friends and staff.
If your child is ill:
- Please contact the school on the first day of absence before 8.30am via phone call or preferably on the Arbor app, quick actions, attendance/log absence.
- Please explain the reason for absence and contact the school every day your child is away.
- If we don’t receive communication from you, we will phone you to establish why your son/daughter is not in school; this may also result in a home visit.
Request for leave in term time:
- Do not book holidays during term time
- Please endeavour to not make routine medical and dental appointments during the school day.
- Make sure your son/daughter understands that you do not approve of them missing school, but be on the alert for any particular reasons for non-attendance, such as problems with schoolwork or relationship issues that might be troubling them.
- We ask for your support in helping your son/daughter arrive in school on time.
- Take an interest in your son/daughter’s education; ask them about their day and praise and encourage their achievements at school.
- Government regulations make it clear that parents do not have the right or entitlement to take their son/daughter out of school for any leave of absence during term-time. The Headteacher is unlikely to grant any leave of absence during term-time.
*In exceptional circumstances, in order to request any leave of absence during term time, please contact our attendance officer - Mrs Callie Dawes callie.dawes@wolverley.worcs.sch.uk.

- Where attendance continues to be a concern, we may be required to involve the local authority for directed or advised support.
- Poor attendance can lead to a penalty notice fine or court proceedings.
